The Ishitsuki style in bonsai is characterized by the use of a stone as the central element in the composition. This stone is generally inclined or leaned, thereby creating a unique base for the tree. The tree's roots are carefully wrapped around the stone in a way to securely cling to it.

The tree branches emerge from the stone or the places where the roots are attached. They are arranged in a way to follow the shape of the stone, thus creating an aesthetic balance. The trunk may exhibit curves or twists to add character to the composition.

The whole creation in the Ishitsuki style aims to harmonize the tree with the stone, thus creating an image of nature that has survived and evolved in challenging conditions.
