Shakan
The Shakan style
Leaning Style

The Shakan bonsai style is characterized by a trunk that leans, but not excessively in relation to the vertical. This trunk displays an elegant and gentle curve, creating an effect of movement in the tree. The branches of the Shakan bonsai are also inclined in the same direction as the trunk, but they do not touch the ground. They are harmoniously arranged along the inclined trunk.
The leaves or needles of the Shakan bonsai are generally small and fine, and they are arranged symmetrically along the branches. The whole tree evokes a sensation of grace and movement, while maintaining a visual balance.

Owner's note :
The Overcup oak (Quercus lyrata) is a deciduous tree native to the southeastern United States, known for its tolerance of both wet and dry soils, making it adaptable for landscaping. It's a fast-growing, long-lived tree that produces acorns almost entirely enclosed in a unique, warty cap, providing significant wildlife value. Key features include leathery leaves with rounded lobes that turn yellow in fall, rough bark, and a strong central leader.
Bought pair for yard and planted one in a pot as a trial. Leaves are still large, but seem to have potential for reduction. Leaves start as red/pink/white comps that look like flowers. Color lasts up to two weeks. Must k keep away from squirrels chipmunks and deer when buds are fresh.
Got another one in May 2026.
