The Kengai style, also known as the cascade style, is a bonsai style characterized by a trunk leaning downwards significantly, evoking the appearance of a natural waterfall. The trunk may exhibit a graceful curve to mimic the flow of water cascading down.

The branches and leaves extend downwards in a harmonious manner, thus creating an overflowing effect, similar to that of water descending from a waterfall. The branches are generally arranged to follow the direction of the inclined trunk. You can often observe a visual contrast between the upper part of the branches, where leaves or needles are more abundant, and the lower part, which might be more sparse.
