The Sharimiki bonsai style is characterized by a trunk that has partially peeled or bare bark. The word "Sharimiki" literally means "peeled bark" in Japanese, which perfectly describes the appearance of this style. In the Sharimiki style, a part of the trunk, usually the upper part, shows its bare bark, while the rest of the trunk and the branches retain their normal bark.

This bare trunk can display very interesting patterns and textures, thus creating a unique visual appeal. The branches are arranged in a way that creates an aesthetic balance with the trunk. The leaves or needles vary depending on the species of tree, but they are generally distributed in a balanced manner along the branches.
