The Sekijoju style
Root-over-Rock Style

The Sekijoju bonsai style is very distinctive. It is characterized by a twisted, knotty, and tortuous trunk. The trunk appears to have been shaped by difficult environmental conditions, giving it a unique and full of character appearance. The branches of the Sekijoju bonsai are often asymmetrical and arranged irregularly along the trunk, enhancing the impression of a tree that has had to struggle for survival.

The leaves or needles can vary in size and are also arranged irregularly on the branches, contributing to the rustic and natural appearance of the bonsai. The entire Sekijoju bonsai evokes a sense of perseverance and resilience, capturing the image of a tree that has overcome trials over time.
