The Red-Bearded Zhusha (Prunus mume 'Hong Xu Zhusha') is a rare, collector-grade Japanese flowering apricot bonsai known for its dramatic, deep crimson-red, double flowers. Often called the "red-bearded king" of flowering plum or red whiskered cinnibar plum.

For first growing season after purchase, didn't want to try 'partial outer canape defoliation'. Still trimmed a few leaves on each vigorous new growth branch, to promote side branch budding. Then wired the longest shoots .

Wire removal from new shoots. All leaves seemed hardened off. Shoots had very little reversion of shape after removal. Very slight wire bite in places. Can maybe/barely see new buds appearing from cut leaves.
