Exposed Root Style

The Neagari style in bonsai is characterized by an aerial or semi-aerial trunk that rises from roots exposed outside the pot. This trunk can have elegant curves or be straight, but the central element is the highlighting of the aerial roots, which are often spectacularly exposed to view.

The branches of the Neagari bonsai are generally located at the top of the trunk, and they may be slightly inclined upwards. The leaves or needles are usually small, which helps create a delicate and balanced aesthetic.

The Neagari style evokes an impression of struggling for survival, as the tree seems to emerge from difficult conditions to reach the light. This exposure of the roots adds a dramatic element to the bonsai's appearance.
