Triple Trunk Style

The Sankan style in bonsai is characterized by a central main trunk, surrounded by three main branches. These branches are arranged in a way to form an equilateral triangle around the central trunk. The main trunk is generally thicker than the branches and rises vertically from the base of the tree. The branches develop at different heights on the trunk, thus creating an interesting visual hierarchy.

The leaves or needles of the Sankan bonsai are proportionate to the size of the tree, meaning they are small and well-suited to the whole. The roots of the Sankan bonsai are carefully worked to ensure the stability of the tree in its pot.

The entire Sankan tree exudes an impression of symmetry and balance, thanks to the regular arrangement of its three main branches around the central trunk.
