The Nejikan style
Twisted Trunk Style
The Nejikan style in bonsai is distinguished by a strongly twisted and irregular trunk. This trunk features pronounced curves and twists, giving the impression it has been sculpted by natural elements. The twists of the Nejikan trunk can vary in intensity, ranging from slight curves to more dramatic twists.
The branches of the Nejikan bonsai are often few in relation to the massive trunk, and they may also exhibit curves and twists. The leaves or needles, depending on the tree species, can be small in size, but they are generally proportionate to the size of the bonsai.
The Nejikan style is highly valued for its unique and artistic appearance. It evokes the idea of a tree that has survived adverse conditions and developed twists in response to these challenges.

Punica granatum ‘Nana’ (Dwarf Pomegranat)
Dwarf version of the fruiting pomegranate. Small deciduous shrub has glossy green leaves and bright orange-red flowers that appear on the tips of its fine-leafed stems from early summer through fall. It flowers abundantly during the hot days of July and August. The small 2” fruits are edible and the fruit hangs on the plant for many months. Plants can be maintained under 2’ in height and tolerate dryness and a restricted root system. Best worked in early spring.
received during bonsai course 07/2024 from Kawa No Oka Bonsai
attempted to root root cuttings spring 2024. got one from woody branch to root.
Spring 2026, didn't leafout till late April, while the cutting from same tree leafed out in in late March. Perhaps not enough fertilizer prior growing season.
